The night Rainy was born it was storming outside and it reminded me of the Eddie Rabbit song "I Love A Rainy Night" which is how her name came to be.

Rainy was a gentle soul. Always calm and alway sweet, she was so incredibly good natured. When Cassye finished her Championship and I went to pick her up from Jack Brown, I brought Rainy with me for the ride down. However, when Jack saw her, he liked her so much he talked me into leaving her with him to show. I wasn't prepared to not bring her home and, although I knew she would be in good hands and it was just temporary, I cried as I left without her. Other than the time I sent Cal off to show with Stan, this was the only other time I became emotional about leaving a dog with a handler. Plain and simple I just wasn't prepared for it and I knew she would miss being in bed with us every night. Fortunately Rainy fast tracked through her Championship points which included 4 major wins and she was home before I knew it!

Over the years my very good friends Randy Salzman and David Kasdan would babysit Rainy when we were out of town. They just adored her and I could see how much Rainy loved them too and how sad they were to see her leave when I took her home. I realized that this home was where Rainy belonged and so I made the heartfelt decision to ask Randy and David if they would like to have her. They didn't hesitate at all and were so happy to have Rainy as part of their family. When I called to see how she was doing shortly after, Randy told me they were sitting on the porch enjoying a glass of wine with Rainy by their side as they watched the sunset that evening. It was then I knew Rainy was where she was supposed to be.

Rainy lived many wonderful years with them until she developed Hermangiosarcome at the age of 10 years old. The day she passed Randy called me in tears, he could barely speak he was so distraught. Their hearts were broken and mine for them. One thing I know for sure, Rainy was loved completely and lived her life treated like a princess.
